I love this session!! Yesterday, I met up with Rachel and Jared to take some engagement shots in Sarasota. I’ve never shot there, but I want to go there way more often! I always use honeymoon Island for my beach of choice, but Sarasota’s Lido beach is so beautiful! Not only did we go to the beach, but we first headed over to the Ringling Museum for some shots. Amazing experience, even though we did get kicked out. I had a feeling we might, but it was so worth it!
Words cannot express how amazing Rachel and Jared are! Gorgeous couple and amazing personalities! I don’t know if Rachel and I will ever be able to keep our conversations on point-we start off talking about photography, but it turns into use gabbing about other things. I am truly excited for your wedding day, you guys! Thank you for taking me to such a prime location for a shoot and for also breaking a rule or two with me! Also, thanks for braving the cold and windy weather and shooting on game day! Also, thanks for not thinking I was nutty when I told you to chase some birds! haha, I’m like a crazy bird lady, looking for ways to scares them!

Yeah, Rachel, you can put it away. You’re gorgeous!!

Yesterday, Tracy & Jonathan met up with me to shoot their engagement session at Honeymoon Island. I’m always excited to head down that way, because I always find something new to incorporate into the images. There were some glitches. I went to a part of the beach I had shot before, but not in a while. Well, there were some changes-the dock I was planning on taking some images on was missing. Gone. So, no worries. I walked along the beach before Tracy and Jonathan got there and scoped out prime locations for shots. While walking, I guess I dislodged the lens hood from my lens. Oops. So,I have a confession, I am always losing something when I shoot, and it’s usually a lens cap.I get so excited about a shot, that I think I put it in my pocket or my shootsac, but I probably just placed it on the ground-a spot you’ll usually find me in when I’m shooting. How do I not notice a huge black lens hood fall off? While walking back to the parking lot, I’m thinking up excuses to tell Jimmy why I don’t have my lens hood : a) lens hoods are overrated. Who needs them? b) A pelican just shot out of the air and gobbled it up. I swear. c) the just deny everything. What lens hood? I never had one! (he’s not the type to get mad, it’s my stuff, but how many times will this poor man have to hear about me losing something?? At some point his poor brain will explode.)
I eventually found the hood. Tracy and Jonathan probably thought I was pretty nuts when I got all excited and exclaimed “Oh, there’s my lens hood!” like I just leave lying around like that, you know, in case I need it at some point.
I had so much fun at this session. There were so many little things that happened and I wish I had video. A lady walking through our shot thinking I’m some perv taking photos of Tracy and Jonathan. Acting like a “limp noodle.” I’m still trying to figure that one out. Possibly stealing another photographer’s lighting equipment and making a run for it (all Jonathan’s idea-that’s my story!) Me being the Mr.Magoo of the photography world.
Here are some images I shot yesterday. Look out for a cameo from the pervy lady.

I could not stop cracking up. I try not laugh at people, unless we’re all just cracking up together. But, the combination of me standing in the cold water-on rocks, no less- and Tracy and Jonathan still keeping their composure in this picture, I couldn’t stop the laughter. I was cold, and almost fell in the water numerous times, so that’s my story. I can’t be faulted in those conditions!

Geez, Tracy! learn to tone it down a few notches! So gorgeous!

Okay, wow, I can’t believe today is the last day of 2009! This year is so very different for me than last year, it is too insane. Last year I was hoping and dreaming that my business will get to where I want it to get. With only one wedding under my belt (Yeah! ONE!) from 2008 and a few shoots here and there, I fully embarked in this crazy business of photographing people in love. My first year of business has been crazy and I sit here completely stressed out (why must the dog throw up on my awesome rug and why can’t I find my phone charger??) and high on emotions, I could never be happier. I think sometimes people focus on divine powers and prayer as the reason for their success (and believe me, I prayed and hoped with the best of them), but I’m gonna say I worked REALLY hard for any success I may have! Ha. I mean, harder than I’ve ever worked, including college! I knew what I wanted to be. I was, and still am, my worst critic. I had a wonderful husband who remained my optimistic guide when I felt like my world was crumbling. I spent hours researching, practicing, and focusing on making each session better than the last. I stopped critiquing my work with other photographers and I pitted myself against myself. I made some stupid moves. I’m making new moves. I’m trying to keep it real.
I have had amazing clients this last year (thank you, you amazing people!) Some of my clients this year will wed next year and I will be there to photograph the beginning of the new chapter in their lives. Some clients, I hope to see you when you have wee little ones!
2010 is a new chapter in my business, my life, and some new and exciting news (at least for me!) Now, I won’t be hoping, working, and dreaming that I have a business, I’ll be focusing on making my business more kick-ass than before. But, before we end 2009, I want to post some of my favorite pictures from this year!
I hope everyone has an amazing new year’s eve, new year’s day, and be safe!!
